Oh yes… 23 weeks down and officially more than half way through! This pregnancy has been a major surprise for my husband and I – Actually, I had no clue I was pregnant until I was 11 weeks in. Food poisoning or being the lucky recipient of a strange, new illness seemed like much more of a likely scenario. Morning sickness hadn’t crossed my mind either because my body has always been a bit out of whack and sensitive to certain foods. If it weren’t for my lovely husband finally convincing me to go to the doctor because “food poisoning for 2 months is not normal”, I’d probably be telling everyone, “I’m just bloated. Ya know…complications from a 6-month long stint of food poisoning.”
So imaging my surprise when my doctor comes back into the exam room, shuts the door, and says, “I knew it. You’re pregnant!” Not only did I look at her like she was speaking a foreign language I couldn’t understand, but I’m also fairly certain I told her she was lying. Sorry doc! I was in shock! :/ But what a relief to know that the mysterious illness, food aversions and extreme fatigue were all because of a baby girl in the works.
And because this little one is slated to enter our lives soon, we’ll be leaving our home of 6 years (NYC) to move back to Sweden this winter. I’m excited and hopeful about the change, but this change comes with a ton to do and big adjustments to make. Besides the preparations that comes with being a new parent to-be (the reading of a million baby books, what seems like an endless amount of midwife appointments, childbirth education classes, working with doulas), we’ve got a massive to-do list in anticipation of our move – immigration paperwork/interviews, passports (for us and our dog and 2 cats), vet visits, packing and shipping the life we’ve accumulated here, trying to set up a new home from 4,000 miles away, etc., etc…
So, for the coming months, I’ll be putting the blog on hold for a bit to focus on preparing for the baby, our move, my regular job, and having a happy, healthy pregnancy. Considering my taste buds are way off right now and I can’t even look at a piece of chicken without grimacing, I’m sure my recipes would be a little weird anyway.
I may post a little something on Instagram periodically, but I’ll be counting the days when I can devote the appropriate amount of time to my blog again. And don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter so you’ll know when things are back in action!
