Are you ready for summer? I’ve got to admit, I’m not a fan of the whole uncomfortable heat, sweaty mess going ons of summer, so getting through it means LOTS of cool drinks, smoothies, and fantasies of me being poolside drinking said drinks and smoothies.
If you live in a hot spot like I do, you’ve probably experienced those early mornings when you walk out of the door greeted with high temps and a wall of humidity. And those are the mornings when making your way to work with a cool breakfast smoothie in hand (kinda like this one) and a couple bottles of detox water is everything!
This detox water is one of my go-to beverages during the summer because 1, I’m not great at drinking water if it’s not flavored (but I’m getting better), and 2, it has some serious detoxing abilities. The vitamin C in lemons and oranges helps to clear the digestive tract and cleanse the liver. There’s also an enzyme in citrus that aids in breaking down fat and toxins. Cucumber is great for re-hydration and has anti-inflammatory properties. And mint also aids in digestion, breaks down fat and eases the stomach.
All of that right there makes this water one powerful detox drink. So drink up! Your body will thank you 🙂
- 2-3 liters water
- 2 large oranges, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- ½ large cucumber, sliced
- 1 handful of fresh mint
- Put oranges, lemon and cucumber in the water pitcher. Using a long spoon, gently mash fruits/veggies; this will release more flavor.
- Take the mint, and gently mash it to release the natural oils; add to the pitcher.
- Add water to the pitcher, and stir to begin the infusion process.
- Drink/serve immediately, or store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
